Birmingham, UK — A West Midlands Police officer was struck on the head with his own baton during a violent stop-and-search confrontation in Birmingham, after a suspect allegedly grabbed the weapon during a struggle before fleeing the scene on an electric bike.

The incident occurred on Soho Road in Handsworth, where two officers were attempting to restrain a man wearing a black hoodie. Video circulating widely on social media shows the suspect resisting arrest while clinging to roadside railings as officers repeatedly ordered him to stop resisting. One officer warned that a Taser could be used if he failed to comply.

During the prolonged struggle, an officer’s baton fell onto the pavement. The suspect allegedly picked it up and struck one officer on the head before escaping on an e-bike while carrying the baton. The injured officer was taken to hospital, treated for a head injury, and has since been discharged.
West Midlands Police have identified the wanted suspect as Mahroy Stephenson, 30, from the Bartley Green area of Birmingham. He is wanted on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is also sought in connection with an earlier assault investigation. Police are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.
