Two individuals who posed as nurses at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have been convicted by the Asokwa Circuit Court after pleading guilty to forging hospital identification cards, impersonating qualified medical personnel and unlawfully treating patients in Kumasi. The court imposed a fine of GH¢12,000 on each convict, with custodial sentences expected in default of payment.
Prosecutors told the court that the pair fraudulently presented themselves as legitimate healthcare workers using forged KATH staff IDs, enabling them to gain public trust and provide unauthorized medical services. Authorities say the illegal practice posed significant risks to patient safety and undermined confidence in Ghana’s healthcare system.
The convictions serve as a warning against impersonation within the medical profession and highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement and health institutions to protect the public from unqualified practitioners. Members of the public are encouraged to verify the credentials of healthcare professionals and report any suspected cases of medical impersonation to the appropriate authorities.
