Accra, Ghana — September 2, 2026 — The Cyber Security Authority (CSA), in partnership with key public and private-sector stakeholders, has launched the 2026 National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM), with a call for stronger collaboration to protect Ghana’s rapidly expanding digital finance ecosystem.
The month-long campaign will run from October 1 to 31, 2026, under the theme: “Securing Ghana’s Digital Finance Ecosystem: Building Trust Through Collaboration and Cyber Resilience.”
The media launch, held at the CalBank head office auditorium in Accra, brought together regulators, law-enforcement agencies, financial institutions, fintechs, technology stakeholders and other partners to strengthen efforts against cyber-enabled fraud and improve public confidence in digital financial services.
CSA Director-General Divine Selase Agbeti said the rapid expansion of digital financial services had created new opportunities but also increased the exposure of consumers, businesses and institutions to cyber threats.
Cyber fraud cases rise
Mr Agbeti cited the Bank of Ghana’s 2025 Fraud Report, saying reported fraud cases across banks, specialised deposit-taking institutions and payment service providers increased by 48 percent, from 16,733 in 2024 to 24,778 in 2025.
Electronic fraud incidents in the payment service provider sector also increased by 54 percent.
The CSA also recorded 3,876 cybersecurity incidents between January and July 2026, with online fraud accounting for approximately 47 percent, according to figures presented at the launch.
Agbeti stressed that cybersecurity should no longer be treated merely as a regulatory compliance exercise or an issue left exclusively to technology departments.
“It is a duty owed to every customer whose money and data you hold,” he said.
He urged banks, fintech companies, payment service providers, insurers and merchants to procure cybersecurity services only from providers licensed or accredited by the CSA.
Police step up cybercrime fight
Director-General of the Police Criminal Investigations Department, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, highlighted recent law-enforcement efforts against cybercrime.
She cited a joint CID and CSA operation in the Tema area that resulted in 39 arrests, as well as an Interpol-coordinated operation that led to 68 arrests, the seizure of 835 devices, identification of 108 victims and the tracing of more than US$450,000 in losses.
She urged individuals and institutions to report cyber incidents promptly, preserve relevant evidence and strengthen international cooperation.
“Cybercrime may be borderless, but criminals are not beyond reach,” she said.
Banks call for stronger collaboration
Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) Chief Executive Officer John Awuah described financial institutions as frontline partners in the fight against financial fraud.
He said banks share information on incidents and emerging fraud tactics with the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Police Service and CSA, while also collaborating among themselves.
Awuah also stressed that customers have an important role to play in protecting their accounts and personal security information.
He said the expansion of digital financial services should not force consumers to choose between convenience and safety, arguing that both must develop together.
Five pillars underpin NCSAM 2026
Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations Mohammed Adams Sukparu, who represented Minister Samuel Nartey George at the launch, outlined five strategic pillars for this year’s campaign:
- Securing Ghana’s digital finance ecosystem
- Cybercrime prevention and response
- Cyber resilience and critical infrastructure protection
- Cyber hygiene and digital safety
- Capacity building, research and multi-stakeholder collaboration
Sukparu said the initiative is intended to strengthen confidence in Ghana’s digital economy and encourage citizens and businesses to adopt safer digital practices.
The CSA has also urged the media to go beyond reporting cybercrime losses by helping the public understand how cyber-enabled crimes occur, how they can be prevented and where victims can obtain assistance.
CalBank backs digital security drive
CalBank Chief Risk Officer Sadiq Atta, speaking on behalf of Managing Director Carl Selasi Asem, said the campaign was particularly important as financial institutions continue to expand digital services.
He called for closer cooperation between regulators, financial institutions, law-enforcement agencies, technology providers, academia, the media and the public.
According to the CSA, the objective is not to slow digital innovation but to ensure that innovation develops alongside security, resilience and public trust.
Building a safer digital Ghana
The 2026 NCSAM campaign will focus on public education and stakeholder engagement throughout October, with particular attention to cyber-enabled financial crimes and safer use of digital financial services.
The CSA said the campaign reflects the growing need for cybersecurity to become a shared responsibility across government, industry, financial institutions and citizens.
