Black Queens Boycott Training Over Unpaid Bonuses Ahead of Egypt Clash

A cloud of uncertainty hangs over Ghana’s women’s national team as the Ghana Black Queens have reportedly boycotted training ahead of their crucial second-leg qualifier against Egypt women’s national football team in the 2026 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualification.

According to credible sources, the players are owed unpaid bonuses of $9,500 each from previous matches and have refused to train until the situation is resolved. This development comes at a critical time, with the decisive fixture against Egypt just days away.

The team had been scheduled for a closed-door training session in Accra, but only technical staff and officials showed up, leaving the session in limbo. The protest highlights a long-standing issue of delayed payments and lack of proper welfare for female national team players in Ghana.

“We love our country, but we also deserve respect. We have families to take care of,” a senior player reportedly said.

The Ghana Football Association is yet to officially respond to the situation, though sources say emergency talks are underway to avert a possible crisis before the match.

The Black Queens, who won the first leg against Egypt, risk losing their momentum if the standoff continues. Fans across the country have expressed frustration over the recurring issue of unpaid bonuses for national team players.
