Multiple reports suggest that outspoken Ghanaian politician Kennedy Agyapong has officially distanced himself from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following his defeat in the party’s recent flagbearership race.
Breakaway After Flagbearer Defeat
According to claims made by George Oti Bonsu, a known confidant of the former Assin Central MP, the decision came after Agyapong failed to secure the NPP’s presidential nod in the just-ended primaries.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Tanko on the “Ghana Se Sen” show, Oti Bonsu revealed that the outspoken businessman-politician has now kept an arm’s length from the opposition party.
‘The Base’ Movement Emerges
Reports further indicate that a political movement known as “The Base” has already been formed to rally support behind Kennedy Agyapong’s presidential ambition.
According to Oti Bonsu, the movement is expected to transition into a fully-fledged political party in the near future, positioning Agyapong for a potential run in the 2028 general elections.
2028 Political Calculations Begin?
If confirmed, this development could significantly reshape Ghana’s political landscape, particularly within the NPP’s traditional voter base.
Kennedy Agyapong, known for his bold rhetoric and strong grassroots following, has long signaled his desire to lead the country. His reported breakaway could mark the beginning of a new political chapter as preparations quietly begin toward 2028.
As of now, there has been no official public statement directly from Kennedy Agyapong confirming the formation of a new political party.
