Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has stirred fresh debate after claiming he was already wealthy and widely known before Burna Boy rose to global fame.
“I Was Already Known Everywhere”
According to Shatta Wale, Burna Boy initially approached him at a time when he had already achieved significant success in the music industry. He stated that he owned 10 private cars and had purchased two houses before Burna Boy’s breakthrough.
“I was already very big before Burna Boy blew up. He was the one who first came to me. Then I was already known everywhere. I already owned 10 private cars and 2 houses I bought,” he said.

He further alleged that Burna Boy once questioned whether his properties were truly funded by music earnings.
How the Friendship Allegedly Ended
Shatta Wale explained that their relationship later deteriorated due to misinformation. He claimed that a former associate he had dismissed allegedly told Burna Boy that he had an affair with Burna Boy’s girlfriend.
“We were very cool until one of my boys that I sacked went to lie to him that I slept with his girl. That’s how our friendship went south,” he added.
Public Reactions and Industry Impact
The two African music heavyweights have had a history of public tensions and subtle exchanges over the years, fueling conversations among fans across Ghana and Nigeria.
While Burna Boy has not publicly responded to these recent remarks, the statement has reignited discussions about their past relationship and the broader rivalry narrative in African music.
Despite the fallout, both artists continue to dominate their respective lanes and represent African music on the global stage.
