The High Court in Wa has sentenced notorious serial killer Shariff Abdulai, popularly known as “Cristos,” to life imprisonment with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to the murder of 23 people across multiple communities in northern Ghana.

Convict Admits to Killing 23 Victims
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the sentence was handed down on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 by the Wa High Court.
The convict admitted to killing a total of twenty-three (23) people across several towns. Court records show that he murdered sixteen (16) victims in Wa, five (5) in Bole, and one each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi.
The shocking confession confirmed suspicions that investigators had been pursuing for months as multiple murder cases across the Upper West and Savannah regions were linked together.
Police Arrest After Intelligence-Led Operations
The Ghana Police Service revealed that Shariff Abdulai was arrested on October 6, 2025 following sustained intelligence-led operations and investigations by law enforcement authorities.
After months of investigations, prosecutors assembled sufficient evidence leading to his arraignment before the Wa High Court following committal proceedings at the District Magistrate Court.
Authorities say the arrest marked a major breakthrough in a series of killings that had caused widespread fear and anxiety in affected communities.
Convict Pleads Guilty in Court
During proceedings on March 4, 2026, Shariff Abdulai appeared before the High Court with legal representation and pleaded guilty simpliciter to the charge.
Upon his own admission, the presiding judge, His Lordship Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi, convicted and sentenced him to life imprisonment in hard labour.
The court ordered that the convict serve his sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, one of Ghana’s major correctional facilities.
