10 Injured in Three-Vehicle Collision on Konongo–Kumasi Highway

Ten people have been injured following a serious three-vehicle collision at Kubease on the Konongo–Kumasi Highway in Ghana’s Ashanti Region. The accident occurred on March 5, 2026, involving a State Transport Company (STC) bus and two cargo trucks.

Vehicles Involved in the Crash

According to reports from emergency responders, the accident involved an STC bus with registration number GS 7045-22, a Volvo truck registered GN 4093-21, and a Benz Atego truck with registration number GR 7972-17.

The crash resulted in extensive damage to all three vehicles. The front section of the STC bus was severely damaged, while the cowl of the Volvo truck and the driver’s side of the Benz Atego truck were also badly affected.

Victims Rushed to Hospital

Among the injured victims were Madam Ampofo Manu and Mr. Benjamin Akpana. Emergency responders quickly transported the injured to nearby health facilities for medical attention.

Some of the victims were taken to the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Hospital, while others were rushed to the Ejisu Government Hospital for further treatment.

Fire Service Rescues Trapped Bus Driver

The driver of the STC bus, Mr. Isaac Yigah, became trapped in the wreckage following the collision. A rescue team from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to the scene to free the driver.

The rescue operation was led by Assistant Station Officer (AStnO) Danku Christian, whose team successfully extricated the trapped driver and assisted other victims at the scene.

Investigations Underway

Authorities have confirmed that investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Road safety officials are expected to assess factors such as speed, road conditions, and driver conduct.

The Ghana National Fire Service team has been widely commended for their rapid response and professionalism during the rescue operation.

The Konongo–Kumasi Highway remains one of the busiest road corridors in the Ashanti Region, and road safety advocates continue to urge drivers to exercise caution to prevent similar incidents.
