Benjamin Afedzie Arrested at Kwamang 50-50 With Human Skull Powder, Eyeballs and Animal Parts on Kumasi-Boamang Bus

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a suspect identified as Benjamin Afedzie after he was allegedly found transporting suspicious items including human skull powder, eyeballs and animal parts on a commercial bus travelling from Kumasi to Boamang.

The arrest occurred at the Kwamang 50-50 police checkpoint, where officers conducting a routine search of passengers and luggage discovered the items in Afedzie’s possession.

Police Discover Disturbing Items During Bus Search

According to preliminary information from the Ghana Police Service, officers stopped the Kumasi-Boamang commercial vehicle as part of standard security checks at the checkpoint.

During the search, police reportedly uncovered a package containing powder believed to be from a human skull, as well as eyeballs, blood and a heart suspected to be from animals. The items immediately raised suspicion among officers, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Afedzie was subsequently taken into custody for questioning as investigators began examining the origin and intended use of the materials.

Suspect Claims Items Were for Spiritual Treatment

During initial interrogation, the suspect reportedly told police that the powder believed to be from a human skull was intended for a “mallam’s treatment”. He further claimed that the heart, eyeballs and blood found with him belonged to animals and were part of a traditional spiritual remedy.

Authorities, however, say investigations are ongoing to verify the suspect’s claims and determine whether any criminal offences have been committed under Ghana’s laws.

Police Begin Investigations

The suspect is currently being held in police custody while investigators work to establish the source of the alleged human remains and the purpose for which the items were being transported.

Cases involving suspected human parts often attract serious legal scrutiny in Ghana, particularly when authorities suspect links to ritual practices or unlawful handling of human remains.

Police say further updates will be provided as investigations progress.

Meanwhile, the incident has generated strong reactions among residents in parts of the Ashanti Region, with many calling for thorough investigations and stricter monitoring of suspicious movements along major transport routes.
