President Mahama Secures Major Toyota Deal During Japan Visit

Accra, Ghana — President John Dramani Mahama’s official working visit to Japan and participation in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) has delivered significant economic gains for Ghana.

A landmark highlight of the trip was the signing of a new agreement with global automobile giant Toyota. Under the deal, Toyota will expand its operations in Ghana and establish the country as its West African hub for automobile assembly and distribution.

According to officials, the agreement is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Ghanaians, boost technology transfer, and position Ghana as a competitive player in the region’s automotive industry. The expansion will also enhance the local supply chain by involving Ghanaian businesses in the production and distribution process.

President Mahama described the Toyota deal as “a turning point in Ghana’s industrial growth,” adding that it aligns with his broader vision of accelerating manufacturing and job creation across key sectors.

“This partnership with Toyota does not only strengthen Ghana’s industrial base but also ensures that our country remains the preferred destination for global investment in West Africa,” the President stated.

Toyota representatives expressed optimism about the collaboration, praising Ghana’s stable business climate and strategic location as ideal conditions for their West African hub.

The agreement comes at a time when Ghana is intensifying efforts to diversify its economy, reduce reliance on imports, and expand opportunities for its growing youth population.

President Mahama’s Japan visit also opened discussions on further cooperation in energy, infrastructure, and digital technology, signaling stronger ties between Ghana and Japan in the years ahead.
