Mahama Aminat, also known online as Akosua Serwaa Minat or “Bawumia Ba,” has reportedly been granted bail to the tune of GH₵1 million with two sureties following her arrest over alleged threats against President John Dramani Mahama.

According to reports circulating online, one of the sureties must be a civil servant earning not less than GH₵5,000 monthly. The court also ordered the suspect to deposit either her passport or Ghana Card with the police and report regularly to investigative authorities.
The case has quickly become one of Ghana’s most discussed political and social media controversies after videos allegedly showing the suspect making threatening remarks against President Mahama surfaced on TikTok earlier this week.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed that the suspect was arrested by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) during a joint operation at Sekyere Zongo in the Ashanti Region. Authorities alleged that the videos included offensive remarks, threats against the President, and incitement directed at both President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.
Heavy Security Presence Outside Court
Scenes outside court on Thursday showed heightened security and heavy media attention as the suspect was escorted by officers through crowds of journalists and supporters.
Videos from the premises quickly spread across social media platforms including TikTok, X, Facebook, and Instagram, sparking fierce political debates online.
While some social media users defended the suspect’s right to free expression, others argued that threats against national leaders should be treated seriously under Ghanaian law.
Case Sparks Debate Over Social Media Conduct
The incident has reignited broader discussions about political activism, online speech, cyber surveillance, and the increasing role of TikTok personalities in Ghana’s political space.
Security analysts say authorities are likely trying to send a strong message against violent rhetoric and online incitement amid rising political tensions ahead of future national campaigns.
Meanwhile, legal observers note that granting bail does not end the case, as investigations and possible prosecution are expected to continue in court.
