The newly launched facility, known as the Mahama ICT Centre, is equipped with modern computer laboratories, robotics training tools, coding systems, internet connectivity, and solar-powered infrastructure aimed at supporting practical science and technology education for young people in northern Ghana.

Photos from the commissioning ceremony showed dozens of students actively participating in coding and robotics lessons while using new desktop computers and digital learning systems. The event formed part of Mahama’s ongoing regional tour focused on infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment.
Students Introduced To Coding, Robotics And Digital Skills
The centre is expected to play a key role in Ghana’s growing STEM education movement by exposing students to coding, artificial intelligence concepts, robotics engineering, and digital literacy from an early stage.
Some students demonstrated robotics projects and computer programming activities during the launch event attended by local leaders, education officials, and community members.
The initiative aligns with Ghana’s broader push to prepare young people for the digital economy and future technology-driven jobs.
According to reports, the centre will also support underserved communities in northern Ghana where access to modern ICT infrastructure remains limited.
Mahama Says Technology Education Is Critical For Ghana’s Future
Addressing the gathering during the launch, Mahama stressed the importance of investing in technology education and practical digital training for Ghanaian students.
He noted that countries that fail to invest heavily in STEM education risk being left behind in the rapidly evolving global economy.
The former president also highlighted the importance of renewable energy integration, with the Damongo facility operating on solar power to ensure stable electricity for learning activities.
The project has already generated strong reactions online, with many Ghanaians praising the focus on digital transformation and rural technology access.
Why This Story Matters
Ghana’s technology sector continues to grow rapidly, but many rural schools still lack access to modern digital learning tools. Projects like the Damongo ICT Centre could help reduce the digital divide while preparing students for careers in cybersecurity, software engineering, robotics, artificial intelligence, and other future industries.
The launch also comes at a time when African countries are increasingly investing in STEM-focused education to compete globally in innovation and technology.
