Former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua has reportedly retired from professional boxing, according to a revelation by his uncle, Adedamola Joshua.

Speaking to The Punch, Joshua’s uncle disclosed that the British-Nigerian boxer recently informed his family of his decision to step away from the sport following a recent accident in Nigeria. The announcement, he said, has brought relief and emotional peace to the family.

“The major thing there is that he has retired from boxing. That is one thing that makes us glad because each time he’s fighting in the ring, we are always carried away emotionally,” Adedamola Joshua stated.

He explained that watching Joshua fight has always been an emotionally draining experience for the family, especially during moments when the boxer was knocked down in the ring.

“Each time he’s knocked down, it is just like the heart is coming out of our chest. All these emotional feelings whenever he’s fighting, it’s too much trauma for us also,” he added.

According to him, the family is fully supportive of Joshua’s decision to leave the sport while still celebrated by fans worldwide.

“Now that he has said that he’s leaving while the ovation is highest, we are happy,” he concluded.

Anthony Joshua, a two-time heavyweight world champion, remains one of the most accomplished boxers of his generation, and his reported retirement—if confirmed—marks the end of a significant era in global boxing.
