Australian businessman Roger John Hussey tragically lost his life during a parasailing excursion at Kata Beach in Phuket, Thailand, after falling from a significant height when his harness became detached shortly after takeoff.
According to authorities, the 71-year-old tourist had just become airborne when he reportedly became separated from the harness and plunged into shallow water. Emergency responders rushed him to hospital, but he later died from his injuries.

Investigators said the parasailing operator and the boat driver were arrested and charged with negligence causing death following the fatal incident. Police launched an investigation into the equipment, safety procedures and the events leading up to the tragedy.
Reports indicate Hussey’s wife witnessed and recorded the incident from the shoreline. Authorities stated there is no official evidence suggesting the incident was intentionally planned, despite speculation that circulated on social media after the video went viral.
Parasailing remains a popular tourist activity across Thailand, although previous safety concerns have prompted authorities to urge operators to follow strict safety standards and equipment inspections.
