According to police sources, Prophet Fire Oja was picked up on January 5, 2026, after Mzbel formally accused him of making damaging and unsubstantiated claims about her during public sermons and online broadcasts.

The prophet allegedly claimed that Mzbel suffered serious health complications as a result of a so-called “soul travel” ritual, and further accused her of being involved in fraudulent activities. These statements, which quickly went viral on social media, sparked public backlash and raised concerns about reputational damage and misinformation.

Mzbel, whose real name is Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, reportedly described the claims as false, malicious, and defamatory, insisting that they have negatively affected her image, mental well-being, and professional engagements. She subsequently lodged an official complaint with the police, prompting an investigation.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that Prophet Fire Oja is currently assisting with investigations and may be arraigned before court pending advice from the Attorney-General’s Department. The police emphasized that freedom of speech and religious expression do not extend to defamatory statements capable of harming another person’s reputation.

The arrest has triggered widespread debate across Ghana, with many calling for stricter regulation of prophetic declarations made in public spaces and on digital platforms. Others have urged religious leaders to exercise caution and responsibility when making claims about individuals.

As investigations continue, the Ghana Police Service has appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. Further updates are expected as the case develops.
