The Ghana Police Service has intensified investigations to identify and arrest all individuals connected to a violent criminal syndicate linked to numerous robberies and the fatal shooting of Andrews Amankwa in the Ashanti Region.

Background of Ohwim Tigo Junction Robbery
On February 10, 2026, armed men attacked and fatally shot businessman Andrews Amankwa at Ohwim Tigo Junction in Kumasi, stealing his Toyota Hilux vehicle. Police launched a multi‑tiered intelligence operation following public outcry and evidence gathered at the scene.
Breakthrough in Investigation
Between February 18 and 22, the Ashanti Regional Police Command arrested four key suspects believed to be part of a well‑organised criminal network involved in vehicle thefts and violent robberies across Ashanti and Western regions. The suspects apprehended include Akwasi Manu, Bashiru Tanko, Kwadwo Amponsah and Emmanuel Kwame Appiah.
Death of Alleged Syndicate Leader
During an intelligence‑led operation, the alleged leader of the gang, identified in police briefings as Eric Antwi Doku or Eric Acheampong Adu, sustained gunshot wounds in an exchange with officers and later died in hospital. His death marks a major development in the case and has prompted police to follow up on all remaining leads.
Ongoing Investigations and Wider Crime Links
Preliminary investigations by the Ghana Police Service indicate the syndicate specialised in stealing high‑value vehicles including Toyota Hilux and Land Cruiser models. Recovered exhibits include firearms, ammunition, forged vehicle documents and stolen vehicles believed to be linked to multiple robberies.
The Police Service has assured the public that it remains committed to dismantling organised criminal networks and is pursuing all leads to arrest additional accomplices who may have facilitated the syndicate’s activities. Members of the public with credible information are urged to report it to law enforcement authorities.
