The Ghana Police Service has arrested two women in connection with the alleged assault of a 13-year-old girl at La in the Greater Accra Region, following widespread public outrage over a disturbing viral video.

The video, which circulated heavily on social media, reportedly shows the minor being mercilessly flogged with canes, sparking nationwide condemnation and renewed calls for stricter enforcement of child protection laws.
In an official statement, the Police confirmed that the suspects were picked up after intelligence-led investigations traced the incident to La. The victim has since been placed under protective care, while preliminary steps have been taken to ensure her safety and wellbeing.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the motive behind the assault and whether additional persons were involved. The suspects are expected to be arraigned before court once investigations are completed.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to protecting children and urged the public to promptly report cases of abuse rather than circulating distressing content online.
