Sam George Vows Sustained Pressure on President Over Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill
Communications Minister and Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, has reiterated his unwavering stance on Ghana’s controversial Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, declaring that President John Dramani Mahama will “know no peace” until the bill is signed into law.

Speaking on 7th December 2024, Sam George stressed that the bill reflects the moral, cultural, and religious values of the Ghanaian people and must not be delayed or sidelined by executive hesitation. According to him, the overwhelming support the bill received in Parliament makes it a national mandate rather than a partisan issue.
Sam George, one of the bill’s chief sponsors, argued that Ghana’s sovereignty and cultural identity must be protected against external pressures. He stated that no foreign government, donor agency, or international organisation should dictate Ghana’s laws, especially on matters deeply rooted in tradition and family values.
The Communications Minister maintained that President Mahama, having benefited from the democratic will of Ghanaians, has a responsibility to act in accordance with public sentiment. He warned that civil society pressure, parliamentary advocacy, and public engagement would continue until the bill receives presidential assent.
The Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill has sparked intense debate both locally and internationally, drawing reactions from human rights groups, religious bodies, and diplomatic missions. However, Sam George insists that Ghana’s democracy allows citizens to define their own moral framework without external interference.
He further emphasized that the bill does not promote hatred but seeks to preserve Ghanaian values and protect children and families. According to him, failure to sign the bill would amount to ignoring the voices of millions of Ghanaians.
As the debate continues, political analysts believe the President’s decision could significantly shape Ghana’s domestic politics and international relations in the months ahead.
