According to accounts cited by Nigerian media, several patients — many of them elderly — had remained at the facility awaiting consultation. The physician had reportedly indicated that he would come to the hospital after observing the Maghrib prayer.
But the anticipated clinic session turned into tragedy. Medical personnel reportedly moved quickly to assist the doctor, with several senior colleagues attempting to resuscitate him. Despite their efforts, he was reportedly confirmed dead within about 15 minutes.
The sudden death left patients, relatives and healthcare workers in deep shock. One witness, Suleiman Harbo, an aide to the Jigawa State governor, reportedly recounted the painful scene after accompanying his elderly mother to the hospital for an appointment.
The exact cause of the doctor’s sudden collapse and death had not been officially established at the time of reporting. Readers are therefore urged to avoid speculation about the medical cause until confirmed information is released by appropriate authorities or the family.
The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of grief online, with many people mourning a physician who had reportedly gone to the hospital to care for waiting patients but never got the opportunity to begin the consultations.
