Former Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has delivered an emotional farewell message to the country, reflecting on his journey with the Black Stars and insisting that the future of Ghana football must be built both on and off the pitch.
In a deeply reflective statement addressed “To Ghana,” Queiroz said football, like life, teaches a timeless lesson: “you either win or you learn,” as he expressed pride in what was achieved while admitting a persistent desire for more.

“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more,” Queiroz wrote. “Reaching a higher level should never be the destination—it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions.”
The experienced Portuguese coach placed particular emphasis on the structural future of the national team, arguing that sustained Black Stars success cannot depend solely on performances during matches.
“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Black Stars Success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent.”
Queiroz also thanked the leadership that gave him the opportunity to serve Ghana, describing his time with the national team as both an honour and a privilege.
“To my President and Board, thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team. It was an honor and privilege to serve the Country and the Black Stars,” he stated.
He further expressed deep gratitude to his players and technical staff for what he described as their courage, commitment and unwavering dedication to the team.
In perhaps the most emotional section of his farewell, Queiroz addressed Ghanaian supporters directly, acknowledging that the journey did not deliver complete sporting satisfaction but maintaining that the Black Stars restored respect and credibility on football’s greatest stage.
“To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage.”
He ended the message with a forward-looking declaration: “Thank you, Ghana. The journey starts now. To the future.”
The farewell is likely to stir strong emotions among supporters as debate continues over the direction of the national team, player development and the structures required to restore Ghana among Africa’s leading football nations.
