The two Ghanaian athletes had impressed earlier in the semifinals after booking places in the final with strong performances that raised expectations among home supporters.

Strong Semifinal Performances Could Not Deliver Podium Finish

Saminu was among the standout performers in the semifinals after winning his heat to secure qualification into the final. Amoah also delivered a solid sprint performance to progress comfortably into the decisive race.

However, despite their promising displays, the duo could not convert their momentum into medal-winning finishes against a strong continental field led by Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, who claimed gold.

The result means Ghana missed out on medals in one of the championship’s most anticipated track events despite competing on home soil.

Focus Shifts To Remaining Events

Both Joseph Paul Amoah and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu are expected to turn their attention to upcoming relay and sprint events as the African Senior Athletics Championships continue in Accra.

Ghana’s athletics team still hopes to secure medals in the remaining days of competition as fans continue to rally behind the country’s athletes.

Why This Story Matters

The performances of Amoah and Saminu highlight Ghana’s growing sprinting strength on the continental stage. Although the pair narrowly missed medals, their qualification to the final reflects the country’s continued progress in athletics ahead of future global competitions including the Olympics and World Championships.
