ACCRA, Ghana — Gomoa Central Member of Parliament Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has led a delegation from AKA Energy Systems to meet President John Dramani Mahama over preparations for a proposed 270-megawatt solar energy project in the Gomoa area.
According to a statement published by A-Plus, the delegation, headed by the Chief Executive Officer of AKA Energy Systems, formally briefed President Mahama on plans to develop the solar project to provide power for the Gomoa Special Economic Zone and the Gomoa Eco Park.
The Gomoa Special Economic Zone is being positioned as a major manufacturing, industrial and commercial hub, while the planned renewable-energy facility is expected to provide dedicated power support for the development.
270MW Solar Project to Be Developed in Phases
A-Plus said preparations have begun toward construction of the 270MW facility, which will be developed in phases.
The delegation assured President Mahama that Phase One is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The announcement represents another step in the development of the proposed project, following an earlier Letter of Intent and Memorandum of Understanding between the Gomoa Special Economic Zone and Canada-based AKA Energy Systems.
AKA Energy Systems and Ghana Project
AKA Energy Systems is an international energy-systems provider with expertise spanning power systems, renewable energy, microgrids and industrial applications. The company’s official materials also list solar PV installations and other green-energy solutions among its capabilities.
In June 2026, Ghanaian Times reported that A-Plus had toured an AKA solar facility in Canada after the submission of a Letter of Intent and signing of an MoU for the proposed 270MW project.
Powering Gomoa’s Industrial Ambitions
The proposed solar project is expected to play a significant role in the energy strategy for the Gomoa Special Economic Zone and the wider Gomoa Eco Park development.
Reliable electricity is considered critical to attracting manufacturing, industrial and commercial investment, while renewable generation could provide an additional source of power as Ghana expands its clean-energy infrastructure.
The project also forms part of broader development ambitions around Gomoa, where investment in industrial activity, tourism, infrastructure and renewable energy is being pursued.
Phase One Targeted for 2027
For now, the key milestone announced by A-Plus and the AKA Energy Systems delegation is the targeted completion of Phase One by the end of 2027.
The latest engagement with President Mahama places the proposed 270MW solar development firmly within the ongoing conversation about Ghana’s energy security, industrialisation and renewable-energy transition.
