Abu Trica Fails to Meet GH₵30 Million Bail as Lawyers Move to Vary High Court Conditions

Lawyer Samuel Kissiedu has explained why embattled Ghanaian figure Abu Trica remains in custody despite being granted bail, revealing that steps are underway to seek a variation of the stringent GH₵30 million condition imposed by the High Court.

His legal team, which includes activist-lawyer Oliver Barker Vormawor, confirmed the ruling shortly after the decision. However, nearly two weeks later, Abu Trica remains behind bars after failing to meet the financial and surety requirements attached to the bail.

Why Abu Trica Could Not Meet Bail Conditions

Speaking on the matter, Kissiedu stated that the GH₵30 million bail requirement is exceptionally high and difficult to satisfy under current circumstances. According to him, the legal team is actively preparing an application to request a review and possible reduction of the bail conditions.

The court has already directed the defence team to formally apply for a variation, acknowledging the challenges involved in meeting the initial terms.

Legal Strategy and Next Steps

Kissiedu confirmed that the application to vary the bail conditions is being finalised and will soon be presented before the court. The move is expected to argue that the bail amount is excessive and limits Abu Trica’s constitutional right to reasonable bail.

The outcome of this application could determine whether Abu Trica will be released pending the resolution of his extradition case.

Why This Story Matters

This case highlights growing concerns around high-value bail conditions in Ghana’s judicial system, especially in cases involving international extradition. Legal experts argue that excessively high bail can effectively amount to a denial of bail, raising questions about fairness, access to justice, and constitutional rights.
