Ghanaians on social media have reacted strongly after reports of disorder and logistical difficulties emerged during the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championship at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon, Accra.
Some athletes and officials from participating countries, including Botswana and South Africa, reportedly expressed frustration over alleged inefficiencies involving accommodation, food distribution, transportation arrangements, security, scheduling, and access to technical competition results during the continental event.

Athletes Raise Concerns During Competition
Videos and reports circulating online showed several athletes and journalists complaining about delays, confusion, and poor coordination at parts of the championship. Some participants claimed transportation arrangements between hotels and the stadium were inconsistent, while others criticised the feeding and accommodation situation.
The controversy quickly triggered reactions from many Ghanaians online, with some expressing disappointment that Ghana’s image as host nation had been affected during a major African sporting competition.
Others defended the organisers, arguing that large international sporting events often experience operational setbacks during the early stages.
Ghana Athletics Association Responds
According to reports, President of the Ghana Athletics Association, Bawah Fuseni, acknowledged that there were initial “hiccups” but assured athletes, officials, and fans that corrective measures had already been implemented to improve conditions throughout the remainder of the tournament.
He reportedly stated that organisers were working around the clock to resolve concerns involving security, accommodation, and technical operations to ensure the championship ends successfully.
The African Senior Athletics Championship remains one of the continent’s biggest athletics events, attracting elite competitors from multiple African nations to compete across several track and field disciplines.
Social Media Reactions Intensify
Across X, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram, many users questioned how Ghana could struggle with organisation despite previously hosting major international sporting events, including the African Games.
Others called for accountability and stronger planning for future tournaments, while some praised volunteers and local supporters for trying to assist stranded athletes and visitors amid the confusion.
The discussions have continued to trend online as organisers attempt to stabilise operations and restore confidence in the championship.
