TikToker “Bawumia Ba” Re-Arrested as Tense Court Appearance Sparks Fresh Public Debate

Popular Ghanaian TikToker Aminat Mahama, widely known online as “Bawumia Ba”, has once again become the centre of national attention after being re-arrested by the Ghana Police Service and arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court over an alleged case of offensive conduct.

The latest court appearance comes only days after she had earlier been granted bail under strict conditions. According to police, the fresh arrest forms part of ongoing investigations into content allegedly published by the 26-year-old social media personality. Authorities say the matter remains before the court while investigations continue.

Scenes outside the Accra Circuit Court quickly went viral as videos captured an emotional and highly charged atmosphere. Footage circulating on social media shows Bawumia Ba being escorted by police officers while covering parts of her face with a yellow cloth. Another video appeared to show a tense confrontation involving bloggers and other individuals gathered outside the court premises.

The Ghana Police Service has indicated that the re-arrest relates to allegations of offensive conduct. The case follows previous investigations involving videos in which she allegedly made insulting remarks about President John Dramani Mahama. The allegations remain before the court, and no determination of guilt has been made.

The development has generated intense reactions across social media, with supporters and critics debating the police action, freedom of expression, and the appropriate application of Ghana’s criminal laws. While some have defended the police’s actions as part of due process, others have questioned the decision to bring fresh proceedings after her earlier bail.

The Accra Circuit Court is expected to continue hearing the matter as investigations progress. Until the court reaches its conclusions, all allegations remain subject to judicial determination.
