Hendon FC Announces Heartbreaking News
Hendon FC announced Williams’ death in an emotional statement, describing themselves as stunned and heartbroken by the loss of their midfielder.
The club said: “We are stunned and heartbroken to announce the sudden and tragic passing of midfielder Ezekiel Williams aged 26.”
It described him as a “humble, unassuming and generous individual” with a razor-sharp wit who quickly became a popular member of the dressing room after joining the club in September.
Williams had been making an impression through his hard-working and selfless performances in midfield.
In a particularly painful detail, he scored his first goal for Hendon just 10 days before his death, against Jersey Bulls.
As a mark of respect, the club postponed its scheduled London Senior Cup match against Woodford Town to allow players and management time to process the devastating news.
A Footballer Who Wanted to Help Others
Williams was more than a player to those who knew him.
He was also involved in youth football development through Journey of a Pro (JOAP), a football coaching and training community that supports young players pursuing their ambitions.
A fundraising appeal established in his memory described him as a talented footballer, a selfless individual and someone who consistently looked for ways to help others.
The tribute highlighted his Christian faith, generosity and commitment to encouraging young athletes.
It also said he had dreamed of becoming a professional footballer and worked hard towards that ambition while helping other young players develop their own opportunities.
Tributes Pour In From Football Clubs
The Isthmian Football League and several clubs connected to Williams’ career have expressed their condolences.
The league paid tribute to him as one of its own, noting that he had represented several clubs, including Hendon, Hastings United, Ascot United, Marlow, Northwood, Harrow Borough and Hayes & Yeading United.
Former club Kettering Town also remembered him as a talented, kind and inspirational individual whose leadership and humble approach made him popular among teammates.
Hendon manager Adam Fisher expressed his shock, describing Williams as a top individual, a generous person and a great teammate.
Police Continue Murder Investigation
Thames Valley Police say their Major Crime Unit is conducting a thorough investigation to establish exactly what happened before Williams sustained the injuries that led to his death.
Detective Inspector Rob Underhill said specially trained family liaison officers were supporting Williams’ relatives.
Police also said they did not believe there was a wider risk to the local community.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting reference 43260570882. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers.
As his family, friends and football colleagues mourn his passing, the investigation continues. The three arrested men have not been convicted, and the circumstances surrounding Williams’ death remain under investigation.
