Four Arrested Over Killing of Couple in Upper East Region, Including One Juvenile

Shock and grief have engulfed residents after the Upper East Regional Police Command arrested four suspects, including a juvenile, in connection with the murder of a couple at Kusanaba, a suburb of the Zebilla District.

The victims, identified as Apam Azubilla, 45, and his wife, Apam Anomsigna, 35, were reportedly attacked and shot by four armed men inside their room on June 10, 2026.

Suspects Arrested After Manhunt

According to a police statement, the suspects identified as Safianu Salam, Awal Salam and Jawal Salam, together with a juvenile whose name has been withheld, were arrested on June 19, 2026, at their hideout in Kugre near Garu.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were inside their room when the attackers allegedly entered with a weapon and opened fire. Apam Azubilla reportedly cried for help, prompting his brother, Ayubugre Apam, to rush to the scene where he found the couple lying in blood.

Victims Pronounced Dead

Apam Anomsigna was pronounced dead on arrival at the Zegoyire Health Centre, while Apam Azubilla died at the Zebilla District Hospital after being referred for further treatment.

Police said examination of the bodies revealed gunshot wounds, while relatives handed over three AK-47 shell casings recovered from the scene.

Suspects To Face Court

The Upper East Regional Police Command confirmed that all four suspects remain in custody and are expected to be put before court as investigations continue.
