The Black Stars of Ghana will play an international friendly against Mexico in May as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

World Cup Preparations Intensify
Both Ghana and Mexico will use the match to further assess players eligible to represent them at the tournament, which will be hosted across Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
The game is scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026, at a yet-to-be-announced venue in Mexico. It will be one of several preparatory matches lined up for Ghana ahead of the global showpiece.
Squad to Blend Domestic, European & U-23 Talents
Head coach Otto Addo is expected to assemble a squad made up of players competing in the Ghana Premier League, selected stars from European leagues closely monitored by the technical team, and some U-23 players preparing for Olympic Games qualifiers.
The friendly provides another opportunity for Addo and his backroom staff to evaluate depth, fitness levels, and tactical cohesion as Ghana builds toward the 2026 tournament.
Three Confirmed Test Matches So Far
The Mexico clash brings Ghana’s announced preparatory matches to three, following earlier confirmation of friendlies against Austria and Germany during the next FIFA international window in March.
Otto Addo and his technical team are expected to name their squad in the coming days for the Austria and Germany fixtures, with the Mexico encounter further strengthening Ghana’s competitive preparations.
With momentum building, the Black Stars will aim to use these high-profile friendlies to fine-tune strategies and solidify their squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
