Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has been arrested at the Accra International Airport, triggering a fierce legal dispute between state authorities and his defence team.

According to Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, the arrest followed an alleged attempt by Aludiba to use “false means” to access funds in a frozen Republic Bank account. Aludiba’s lawyers have strongly disputed the allegation and challenged the state to provide evidence.

Why was Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba arrested?
Dr Srem-Sai said law enforcement officers arrested the former NAFCO boss at the airport after developments linked to the alleged attempt to access the account. The Deputy Attorney-General also indicated that the Attorney-General would seek a review of the High Court order that had permitted Aludiba to travel outside Ghana.
The arrest is particularly controversial because Aludiba had reportedly secured permission from the High Court to travel to the United Kingdom for a medical appointment. His lawyers say the court granted him permission on June 29, 2026, after hearing submissions from both sides.
Lawyers reject allegations and threaten contempt action
Aludiba’s legal team, led by former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, has rejected the state’s account and described the arrest as a violation of a valid court order. The defence argues that there was no subsisting freezing order affecting the account in question and has threatened contempt proceedings against senior state officials.
The dispute has now escalated further, with lawyers filing a habeas corpus application seeking to compel the authorities to produce Aludiba before the High Court and justify his continued detention.
Former NAFCO boss already facing criminal charges
Aludiba is already standing trial alongside other accused persons and has pleaded not guilty to charges that include conspiracy, stealing, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering and causing financial loss to the state. The allegations remain before the courts and have not resulted in a conviction.
The latest airport arrest adds a dramatic new chapter to the case, with the legality of the detention, the disputed bank-account allegation and the effect of the court-approved travel order now at the centre of an intensifying legal confrontation.
