The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, on Monday, January 5, 2026, promoted thirty (30) officers of the Ghana Police Service to their next ranks in recognition of their outstanding professionalism and bravery in two major security operations in the Ashanti Region.
The promotions followed the officers’ distinguished conduct during operations that led to the interception and retrieval of 2,600 rounds of AK47 ammunition at the Kantanso Asankare Police Barrier, as well as the successful dismantling of a notorious robbery syndicate operating along the Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta stretch during the Christmas festive season.

According to police sources, the ammunition seizure at the Kantanso Asankare Barrier was the result of intelligence-led policing and heightened security surveillance. The recovered AK47 rounds, believed to have been trafficked for criminal activities, posed a significant threat to public safety had they made their way into the wrong hands. The operation has since been described as one of the most critical arms interceptions in recent times within the region.

In a separate operation, officers also dismantled a well-organised robbery syndicate that had been terrorising commuters and residents along the Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta road. The gang, which had intensified its activities during the Christmas season, was responsible for several reported armed attacks and robberies. The police operation led to multiple arrests and the restoration of calm and safety along the stretch.

Speaking during the promotion ceremony, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno commended the officers for their courage, discipline, and commitment to duty. He stressed that the Ghana Police Service would continue to recognise and reward officers who demonstrate exceptional service, especially in operations that safeguard national security and protect the lives and property of citizens.
The IGP further encouraged all personnel to uphold professionalism, integrity, and vigilance in the discharge of their duties, noting that such conduct strengthens public confidence in the police service. He reiterated the police administration’s resolve to intensify intelligence-driven operations, particularly during festive periods when criminal activities tend to rise.
The promotions have been widely welcomed within the service and by the public, with many describing the move as a morale booster for officers working under challenging and sometimes dangerous conditions. Security analysts believe such recognition sends a strong message that excellence, bravery, and dedication within the Ghana Police Service will not go unnoticed.
