King Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, Presidential Special Envoy to the Caribbean Region, has ignited debate after urging Ghanaians to stop blaming people who throw away polythene bags as the primary cause of flooding.
Speaking during an interview on Starr FM’s StarrChat, he argued that focusing solely on littering oversimplifies the country’s recurring flooding challenges. According to him, broader issues such as drainage infrastructure, urban planning and effective waste management deserve equal attention.
His comments have generated mixed reactions on social media. While some agree that poor planning and inadequate drainage systems are major contributors to flooding, others insist that indiscriminate disposal of plastic waste remains a significant factor that blocks drains during heavy rainfall.
