Kodua: NPP’s 2028 Victory Will Be Determined by Ashanti Region

New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua has declared that the Ashanti Region will play a decisive role in determining whether the party returns to power in the 2028 general elections.

Kodua made the remarks on Sunday, September 6, 2026, during a thanksgiving service organised by the newly elected Ashanti Regional Executives in Kumasi.

KODUA: NPP’S 2028 VICTORY WILL BE DETERMINED BY ASHANTI REGION

According to him, the party’s performance in the region will be critical to its national electoral fortunes, particularly after the NPP’s reduced vote margin in the 2024 election.

“The victory of NPP in 2028 will be determined by the Ashanti Region.”

NPP Sets 1.5 Million Vote Target

Kodua subsequently announced a target of more than 1.5 million votes for the NPP in the Ashanti Region.

He tasked the newly elected regional executive committee, led by Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah (COKA), to intensify grassroots mobilisation and recover votes lost during the 2024 election.

The NPP General Secretary said the party needed to change its electoral fortunes by building on the support currently enjoyed by the new regional leadership.

Ashanti Region Positioned as NPP’s Electoral Stronghold

The Ashanti Region has traditionally been one of the NPP’s strongest electoral bases, making its performance particularly important to the party’s ambitions for 2028.

Kodua urged the regional executives to maximise votes for NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia while strengthening the party’s structures across the region.

Call for Unity

Kodua also urged the newly elected executives to maintain unity and work collectively.

The appeal comes after the Ashanti Regional elections, with the new leadership being encouraged to bring different factions together and focus on rebuilding the party ahead of 2028.

Chairman COKA has similarly called for unity within the party, warning that internal divisions could undermine the NPP’s efforts to regain power.

Bawumia’s Message

Former Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also expressed confidence in the new Ashanti Regional leadership.

His message, delivered by Kodua at the thanksgiving service, urged the executives to unite the party’s grassroots and work towards victory in 2028.

The Ashanti Region is therefore emerging as a central battleground in the NPP’s strategy for the next presidential election, with the party setting an ambitious vote target and demanding stronger mobilisation from its regional leadership.
