The sudden loss has triggered an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, sympathisers and members of the public, particularly within Ghana’s energy and climate-change sectors.

Who was Dr Dramani Bukari?

Dr Bukari was an energy and climate-change expert with extensive experience spanning sustainable energy, entrepreneurship, research, consultancy and development programmes. He held an MSc in Energy Economics, which he completed with distinction, as well as a PhD in Sustainable Energy Technologies.

Before joining the NPA, he served as Director of Entrepreneurship, Partnerships and Investments at the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre, where he worked on entrepreneurship development, strategic partnerships, access to finance, policy research and support for businesses operating in the climate and sustainable-development space.

His contribution to Ghana’s energy sector

Dr Bukari became Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the NPA in February 2025 and contributed to the regulation and development of Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector, including areas involving petroleum pricing, taxation and market stability.

His professional background also included research and project coordination work involving renewable energy and mini-grid development across several African countries. Earlier work documented his involvement in research on mini-grids in Kenya, Senegal and Nigeria, reflecting his broader interest in sustainable energy development.

Details of death remain limited

While multiple Ghanaian media organisations have reported his death, details about the illness that preceded his passing and the circumstances surrounding his death had not been publicly disclosed at the time of publication. Funeral and burial arrangements are also expected to be communicated by his family and the NPA.

GhanaMedia.net extends its condolences to Dr Bukari’s family, colleagues and all who knew him. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
