Old Vandals Return To Commonwealth Hall As Dr. Clement Apaak Calls For Unity

The Old Vandals Association (OVA) marked a major milestone with the successful organisation of the 2026 Vandals Jamboree at Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana, celebrating a symbolic return to the fraternity’s traditional home after five years away.

The August 1 gathering at the famous Bacchus Gardens inside Vandal City brought together alumni, fraternity leaders and distinguished guests from Ghana and abroad for what members described as a defining moment of reconciliation, unity and institutional renewal.

Historic Homecoming

Speaking during the event, Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, representing Old Vandals serving in the Executive and Legislature, described the occasion as an emotional reunion made possible through improved relations between the Old Vandals Association and the University of Ghana.

He expressed appreciation to the university’s management for helping restore cordial relations that paved the way for the fraternity’s return to Commonwealth Hall.

Call For Peace And Unity

Dr. Apaak urged current students of Commonwealth Hall to protect the peace that has been restored, stressing that every Vandal must demonstrate maturity, discipline and wisdom to preserve the renewed relationship with university authorities.

According to him, maintaining harmony will strengthen preparations for the celebration of Commonwealth Hall’s 70th Anniversary in 2027 and help safeguard the hall’s proud legacy.

Major Milestones Announced

The Jamboree also witnessed the reopening of the Global Head Office of the Old Vandals Association after years of closure, symbolising institutional restoration and organisational renewal.

Members further acknowledged the lifting of sanctions imposed on seven previously rusticated students. Six have since returned to continue their academic programmes, while members observed a moment of silence in honour of the seventh student who sadly passed away before benefiting from the resolution.

Recognition For Collective Efforts

Dr. Apaak praised the contributions of Old Vandals serving in the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary, together with the National Council of Elders, National Executive, regional chapters and international branches in North America and the United Kingdom for supporting reconciliation efforts that restored confidence between the fraternity and the university.

Legacy Of Commonwealth Hall

Reflecting on Commonwealth Hall’s history, Dr. Apaak described it as one of Ghana’s foremost leadership institutions that has produced distinguished traditional rulers, politicians, judges, academics, business executives, security leaders, media personalities and athletes who continue to contribute to national development.

He said the fraternity’s enduring values of freedom, equity, justice and service continue to define the Vandal identity, while reaffirming the famous motto, “Truth Stands.”

A Cherished Honour

The celebration concluded with Dr. Apaak expressing gratitude after receiving an award from the Old Vandals Association in recognition of his longstanding service to the fraternity. He described the honour as one of the most meaningful recognitions of his public life and reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of Commonwealth Hall.
