National Theatre pledges support for Afronita to boost her performing arts profession amongst others

0

Mrs Amy Frimpong, Executive Director of the National Theatre of Ghana, has offered the theatre’s support to dancer Afronita, who recently performed admirably at the Britain’s Got Talent auditions.

She said the Theatre, which oversees dance as one of the performing arts sectors, will provide facilities to enable the budding star to sharpen her skills and support other professionals in the field.

“Our doors are open to as many professionals in the performing arts who are interested in our assistance to project their works. That is what the National Theatre does for Ghanaians,” she said.

Mrs Frimpong stated this when the National Theatre and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture hosted Afronita, known officially as Danita Akosua Adoma, returned from the Britain’s Got Talent auditions.

Afronita and her protégé Abigail Adjiri made an astounding debut on the world-famous talent platform’s auditions early last week, receiving a standing ovation from the judges, including Simon Cowell, and the audience as well.

Abigail, a hearing-impaired child, was able to dance her heart out with her mentor, Afronita. They waved the Ghana flag on stage while dressed colourfully in Kente-inspired clothes.

Mr Andrew Egyapa Mercer, Minister-designate for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, hosted Afronita at the Ministry offices on Friday, May 10, 2024.

He was supported by the Deputy Minister, Mr Mark Okraku Mantey, and Mrs Frimpong.

Also present at the meeting were Mansa Williams, a Board Member of the National Theatre, Dr. Fio of the National Commission on Culture (NCC) and staff of the Ministry.

Abigail had gone back to school to write her examinations at the time of the visit, but Mr Mercer said he was ready to meet her as soon as she finished.

The Minister-Designate commended Afronita on her bold decision to display her talents on the global stage with Abigail and pledged support for various stakeholders in the creative arts industry.

Afronita spoke on her experience, stating that making it to the world stage was a dream come true for her and Abigail.

Judge Bruno on the show rated the two dancers’ choreography as “world-class.”

“…You are two of the most fantastic dancers we have ever had on Britain’s Got Talent.” Another judge, Amanda, added.

Judge Simon Cowell rated the performance as one of his “favourite auditions of the year.”

Afronita is a Level 300 student at the University of Ghana. She has established her own dance studio and trains young dancers.

In response to her ongoing brouhaha with Medikal, Fella Makafui has released a press statement confirming that indeed her marriage with the rapper has ended while touching on other relevant facets of the foregoing.

The actress and influencer reiterated her resolve to put their daughter, family, and businesses above responding to Medikal’s numerous allegations on social media.

She then held that most of Medikal’s comments are untrue and have greatly hurt her, her family, and her businesses.

Fella Makafui further stated that she intends to pursue proper legal action to resolve the issue and not to engage Medikal on social media.

See her full statement below;

“I and my husband have, a few months ago, agreed to end our four-year marriage.

We have, therefore, been waiting for our respective families to complete the required customary divorce rites.

Recently, however, my husband has been making a little too many public statements about our marriage, our beloved daughter, my family, and my businesses.

Precious Fella Makafui pleads with Dampare to arrest Medikal over publication of false news

0

The ongoing feud between Medikal and Fella Makafui shows no signs of ending soon, as the actress has requested IGP George Akufo Damapare to take action against the rapper for spreading misinformation.

Shortly after Medikal revealed on X that the police had stormed his house at the request of Fella Makafui, the actress shared her version of the story by involving the IGP.

Fella stated that she is currently facing threats to her life because of the baseless allegations made by Mr. Samuel Adu Frimpong (Medikal).

She further stated that Medikal’s baseless statements, which falsely alleged on social media that his life was at risk and wrongly implicated the occupants of his house, violate the Electronic Communications Act 2008 (Act 775).

Here’s the full petition;

“I, Precious Fella Makafui a Ghanaian citizen write to formally petition the Ghana Police Service to urgently investigate the publication of false news, which is in violation of Section 208 of the Criminal Code of 1960, Act 29.

The publications made by Mr. Samuel Adu Frimpong, a musician popularly known as MEDIKAL, have put my life in imminent danger. I am a well-known public figure in Ghana, recognized for my work as an actress, brand ambassador, and entrepreneur. My most notable role was portraying ‘Serwaa’ in the popular YOLO television series.

I have been married to Mr. Samuel Adu Frimpong since March 7, 2020. However, we decided to divorce in January 2024 and have not communicated with each other since then. Despite this, we have agreed to co-parent our daughter. We jointly contributed to the finances for our house in East Legon Hills, where we currently reside. Recently, he has been spending most of his time away from the house since our decision to divorce.

Mr. Samuel Adu Frimpong not only falsely claimed on social media that his life is in danger and attributed any potential harm to the residents of his house, but he has also made subsequent publications that cast serious innuendos about my personality.

As a well-known female actress and public figure in Ghana, I am now facing severe threats to my life due to these false claims made by Mr. Samuel Adu Frimpong. Mr. Samuel Adu Frimpong’s false publications not only falsely claimed on social media that his life is in danger and attributed any potential harm to the residents of his house but have also violated the Electronic Communications Act 2008 (Act 775).

Specifically, his actions contravene Section 76 (1) and Section 76 (2) of the Electronic Communications Act 2008, which prohibit a person who by means of electronic communications knowingly sends communication which is false or misleading likely to prejudice the efficiency of life saving services or to endanger the safety of any person commits an offence.

These publications by Mr. Samuel Adu Frimpong have a significant tendency to incite harm towards me, as I am easily identifiable and can be targeted by his numerous fans.”
