Esther Smith reveals her mother wanted to abort her but this happened

In a candid interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM on August 29, 2024, renowned Ghanaian gospel singer Esther Smith revealed a deeply personal story about her early life. She shared that her mother, who was a schoolgirl at the time, had initially planned to abort her due to the difficult circumstances surrounding her conception.

Esther recounted how her grandmother, sensing something was wrong, followed her mother on the day she intended to visit the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for the abortion.

Esther disclosed, “My mother wanted to abort me. On the day she was going to KATH for the abortion, her mother suspected something and asked where she was headed, then started following her around.” Her mother eventually confessed her intentions, and even Esther’s father, who was initially hesitant about her birth, intervened to prevent the abortion. “Even my father, who didn’t want me at first, stopped her when he realized what she was planning.”

Despite taking various drugs to induce the abortion, none were effective. During this challenging period, a pastor assured her mother that the child she was carrying would have a significant impact on the country. Reflecting on her life, Esther acknowledged the divine intervention that saved her, enabling her to rise as a leading figure in Ghanaian gospel music.

Esther also revealed that her first song, titled “Ewurade Wo Din No Hyeren” (LORD, Your Name is Glorious), marked the beginning of her musical journey. She fondly remembered joining the Tanoso Methodist Church Choir in Kumasi at the age of 14 and later, the Voices of Faith choir at 16, where she began writing her own songs.
