Ghana’s coach, Otto Addo, expresses optimism for the Black Stars’ future despite recent defensive challenges, following victories over Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR).

In an interview with 3Sports, Addo highlighted the team’s recent performances, praising their resilience while acknowledging areas needing improvement.

“Despite securing wins, there are lessons to be learned. It’s vital for the players to maintain belief in themselves; anything is possible,” Addo emphasized.

“After a disappointing AFCON in Ivory Coast, restoring confidence in the squad was tough. However, their quick adaptation and strong performances are encouraging for Ghanaians. It demonstrates our ability to triumph over any opponent.”

Since returning as Ghana’s coach after the 2023 AFCON, Addo has steered the Black Stars to consecutive victories this month, rekindling hopes for World Cup qualification.

While noting Ghana’s progress under his guidance, Addo stressed the importance of narrowing the gap with top teams and addressing weaknesses.

“There’s tremendous potential, but we must close the gap with the best teams. By improving and refining our weaknesses, the future looks promising,” he remarked.

Addo also emphasized collective defensive efforts, particularly following games where Ghana conceded four goals against Mali and CAR.

“Beyond the results, we need to assess our approach from the outset. How effective was our counter-pressing? Did we manage to prevent opponents from exploiting our defensive line? This awareness is crucial for both players and fans,” Addo added.

Otto Addo, who previously guided Ghana to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar, has begun his second stint with a 34-month contract, with an option to extend for an additional 24 months.
