Ghana’s leading FIFA referee Daniel Nii Laryea and eight other Ghanaian football officials have reportedly failed the 2026 FIFA/CAF fitness and medical assessments, placing their eligibility for international assignments on hold pending a successful retake.

According to reports, the annual Cooper fitness tests were conducted between July 9 and July 14, 2026, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. Officials who did not meet the required FIFA and CAF standards are expected to undergo another assessment at a later date to regain their eligibility for international duties.
The reported list of affected centre referees includes Daniel Nii Laryea, Adaari Abdul Latif, Reginald Amoah Collins, Selorm Yao Bless, and Salifu Barikisu. Assistant referees reportedly affected are Dolagbanu Emmanuel, Rejoice Addokwei, Farizua Alice Chakule, and Doris Asumang Darko.
Daniel Nii Laryea has established himself as one of Ghana’s most respected referees and has officiated at several high-profile CAF and FIFA competitions in recent years. The reported outcome is therefore expected to attract significant attention within Ghanaian football circles.
The affected officials are expected to have another opportunity to complete the required fitness and medical assessments. A successful retake would restore their eligibility for future FIFA and CAF appointments.
