A self-proclaimed pastor, Nana Yaw Bonsu Kwarteng, and his wife have been arraigned before the Accra High Court over allegations of operating an elaborate romance fraud scheme that investigators say targeted more than 10 women.
The case, which has generated widespread public attention, follows investigations into allegations that victims were deceived through promises of love, marriage and spiritual intervention before allegedly being defrauded of significant sums of money. Prosecutors contend that the accused used false identities and deceptive representations to lure victims into the alleged scheme.
Both accused persons appeared before the High Court where the matter was formally presented. They are expected to respond to the charges as legal proceedings continue. Under Ghana’s legal system, the allegations remain unproven until determined by the court.
The case has renewed public conversations about romance scams and fraudulent activities carried out under the guise of religious or spiritual counselling. Authorities continue to advise the public to exercise caution when sending money or sharing sensitive personal information with individuals met online or through unofficial channels.
Investigators are expected to continue gathering evidence as the court process unfolds. Anyone with relevant information has been encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement authorities.
