Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan has officially been unveiled as an ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and Colts football by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) during a colorful ceremony held in Accra.

The unveiling event, held at the Pelican Hotel on Wednesday night, attracted football administrators, musicians, former players, corporate executives, and several personalities from Ghana’s sports and entertainment industries.

According to the GFA, Asamoah Gyan’s new role will focus on promoting Ghana football, strengthening fan engagement, supporting Colts football development, and helping rally support for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Kurt Okraku Praises Asamoah Gyan’s Legacy
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku described Gyan as one of Ghana’s greatest football icons, praising his contributions to the national team and African football history.
The GFA highlighted Gyan’s achievements, including becoming Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals and Africa’s highest scorer in FIFA World Cup history.
During the ceremony, emotional tributes were paid to the former Black Stars captain, while Gyan himself expressed gratitude to the Football Association for the honor and pledged continued service to Ghana football.
Focus On Grassroots Football And National Unity
Asamoah Gyan reportedly used the occasion to call on corporate Ghana to invest more in grassroots football and youth talent development across the country.
He stressed that young footballers need stronger support systems and opportunities to succeed, describing grassroots football as the foundation of every successful football nation.
The event also featured appearances from musicians including DopeNation and Kwabena Kwabena, adding entertainment and excitement to the high-profile ceremony.
Gyan’s Historic Black Stars Career
Widely known as “Baby Jet,” Asamoah Gyan remains one of the most celebrated footballers in Ghanaian history.
He represented Ghana at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 FIFA World Cups, famously scoring Ghana’s first-ever World Cup goal in 2006 and becoming Africa’s all-time leading World Cup scorer.
Many football fans have welcomed the ambassadorial appointment, viewing it as a strategic move to reconnect supporters with the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
