Shock and grief have engulfed the Ayanfuri Traditional Area in the Diaso District following the tragic death of Nana Kwabena Okyere, the Mmratehene of Ayanfuri, after an alleged accidental gun discharge during a funeral ceremony on Friday, May 9, 2026.

According to reports gathered from the area, the unfortunate incident happened during the funeral rites of Abusua Panyin Akwasi Kwateng. Eyewitnesses claim the chief was handling a pump-action gun as part of traditional funeral activities when the firearm allegedly discharged unexpectedly.

The chief reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was rushed for medical attention. However, he was later pronounced dead, throwing residents and mourners into deep sorrow.
