Questions Raised Over Joselyn Dumas’ Alleged Diaspora Affairs Appointment

Questions are being raised again over claims that Ghanaian actress and media personality Joselyn Dumas was appointed Deputy Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, with an NPP activist publicly asking what role she holds and what she has accomplished if she has indeed been receiving a government salary.

The issue has resurfaced following a social media post attributed to Adwoa Animah, an NPP activist, who questioned whether Dumas is a government appointee and, if so, what her job description is and what she has done in the role over the past year.

“So Joselyn Dumas is a government appointee and drawing salary every month as deputy director of diaspora affairs? What’s her job description and what has she done in the role over a year now? I’m curious,” the post stated.

The question is significant because reports about Dumas’ alleged appointment generated considerable public attention in March 2025. Several media outlets initially reported that President John Dramani Mahama had appointed the actress as Deputy Director for Diaspora Affairs, reportedly working alongside Kofi Okyere-Darko, who had been named Director of Diaspora Affairs.

However, the reports were subsequently challenged by the government. On March 13, 2025, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that Dumas had not been appointed to the position. He told Joy FM that although other creative-industry appointments could be confirmed, “Miss Dumas has not been appointed to any such position.”

The clarification changed the status of the widely circulated appointment story and raised questions about how the original claim gained traction across social media and sections of the Ghanaian media.

At the time, other appointments involving prominent figures from Ghana’s creative sector were confirmed. Kofi Okyere-Darko was appointed Director of Diaspora Affairs, while Rex Omar was named Coordinator of the Black Star Experience. Abeiku Santana was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, with Kafui Danku and James Gardiner also receiving positions at the National Film Authority.

Against that background, the renewed question about Dumas’ supposed government role deserves to be addressed with facts rather than assumptions.

Was Joselyn Dumas Actually Appointed?

Based on the public clarification issued by the government in March 2025, there was no confirmed government appointment for Joselyn Dumas as Deputy Director of Diaspora Affairs.

This distinction is important because an initial wave of reports presented the appointment as official, while the government later expressly denied it. As a result, claims that Dumas is currently a government employee drawing a monthly salary from that position should not be presented as established fact without new documentary evidence or an official confirmation.

The latest available public information also shows Dumas continuing her work in the entertainment and private-sector space. In October 2025, the Ghana Gold Board announced her appointment, alongside Bola Ray, as a brand ambassador for GoldBod Jewellery, a role focused on promoting Ghanaian gold heritage and locally crafted jewellery.

Why the Question Matters

The controversy goes beyond one celebrity. Public appointments come with responsibilities, accountability and expectations about the use of public resources. When a prominent personality is alleged to have received a government position, citizens are entitled to ask what the position entails, who appointed the person, what mandate they have and what measurable work has been undertaken.

For the Ghanaian diaspora in particular, the questions surrounding Diaspora Affairs are important because the office is expected to contribute to stronger engagement between Ghana and citizens living abroad, while supporting initiatives connected to investment, cultural diplomacy, tourism and national development.

That makes clarity over appointments within the office especially important. Public confidence depends not only on who occupies a position but also on transparency regarding the mandate, responsibilities and results associated with it.

Social Media Claims Need Verification

The Dumas controversy is also a reminder of how quickly claims about public appointments can spread online. In March 2025, the alleged appointment circulated widely before the government issued its clarification.

The latest post by Adwoa Animah should therefore be understood as a political and public-interest question rather than proof that Dumas currently holds the position described.

Unless a new official appointment has been made since the government’s 2025 denial, it would be inaccurate to state categorically that Joselyn Dumas is the Deputy Director of Diaspora Affairs or that she receives a government salary for that role.

What Ghanaians Want to Know

The central questions are straightforward: Was Joselyn Dumas ever formally appointed to the position? If there has been a subsequent appointment, when was it made and by whom? What is the official job description? What public mandate does the role carry? And what measurable work, if any, has been undertaken under that mandate?

Those questions can be answered through official documentation rather than speculation or political commentary.

For now, the publicly documented position remains that the government denied Dumas’ reported appointment in March 2025. Any claim that she is currently a government appointee should therefore be supported by fresh official evidence.
