Ghanaian disc jockey DJ Switch has reached another major international milestone after appearing alongside American basketball legend and entertainer Shaquille O’Neal in a new commercial.
The advertisement places the young Ghanaian entertainer in the same campaign as one of the most recognisable figures in global sports and popular culture.
The pairing is also particularly interesting because DJ Switch and Shaquille O’Neal share a strong connection to music and disc jockeying.
Shaquille O’Neal, popularly known as Shaq, built an illustrious basketball career that included four NBA championships, 15 NBA All-Star selections and induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Outside basketball, he has also established himself as an entertainer, businessman and professional DJ performing under the name DJ Diesel.
DJ Switch, whose real name is Erica Armah Bra-Bulu Tandoh, started DJing at the age of nine and rose to national prominence after winning TV3’s Talented Kidz competition in 2017. She later became the youngest contestant to win at the Ghana DJ Awards.
Her talent has since taken her beyond Ghana, earning her appearances at international events and recognition from prominent personalities and organisations.
In 2020, she was featured in an Apple promotional video celebrating creative people who were using Mac computers to make an impact around the world. The campaign also included other internationally recognised personalities.
Her appearance alongside Shaquille O’Neal is therefore another important addition to her growing international portfolio.
